Can't wait for Heavy Metal 2011, the first one holds out pretty good, Heavy Metal 2000 worked in it's own way, but I'm glad to hear the HM 2011 will have the same storyboard format as the original meaning different segment with different stories, hope they can get Serpieri and Aspiri to contribute ideas for sketches with their respective Druuna and Lorna characters, it would be a great balance between hard edge story and the more sexy and comical story.

Let's keep the soundtrack full of Heavy Metal like the first movie did. Well, I'll admit Devo and Donald Fagan really aren't Heavy Metal but their songs held true for the scenes in the movie. Maybe some Judas Priest and Iron Maiden this time. Ronnie alas will not sing "The Mob Rules" this time.

OH god! can it be? well if this is true i cant wait! i would like to see at least one of the older stories and some of the original music with some kick ass animation! kids these days are missing out on classical animation what with their pixar and dreamworks. dont get me wrong its still great stuff. but nothing compares to standard animation all rocking out to a kick ass soundtrack that at the time was considered heavy metal!!! ill never forget seeing those aliens snort up that coke while listening to Don Felder and Sammy Hagar!!

Yes, chuckwheel, you are right. John Candy was Den's Voice, the Desk Sergeant in the "Harry Canyon" segment, and the Robot's voice in "So Beautiful, So Dangerous". Eugene Levy was Captain Sternn, The Reporter, and Edsel in So Beautiful, So Dangerous", and in that same segment Harold Ramis played Zeke.

Didn't the original have a bunch of SCTV actors do the voices - e.g. John Candy as Den. I think Eugene Levy & Harold Ramis are in there too

The new movie had better have the CG on a par with Avatar, or its going to fall on its face. I'd love to see CG like that for some of the classic HM greats like Moebius, Bilal, Gimenez, Druillet, Corben, and Bode, and of course the great Jeffrey Jones. Can you imagine Cheech Wizard's SunPot done up like that - complete with Bronx accents? It would be incredible. Put these titans along with some of the newer phenom together with that CG engine, and I guarantee a transcendental mind-blowing, REAL, TRUE Heavy Metal experience. While Eastman and Bisley's hearts were in the right place, F.A.K.K. sucked major ass. It wasn't even a great print installment - compared to Salammbo, Yragael/Urm or Loan Sloane by Phillipe Druillet, it reads/looks like a kindergarten ballet recital. Please Eastman and crew, don't disappoint this time. I hope they're listening.

I agree with that.
It probably won't be a commercial success. Most likely it'll be a cult fave like the first one. I don't think it'll suck. Kevin Eastman had said, after seeing the Animatrix, that he had wished they had gone that route with the 2nd Metal movie. That's always encouraging.

I'm looking forward to this new Heavy Metal. The list of contributors looks promising. Fincher and Cameron is an interesting combination.

Folks, I'm afraid we're fully into the new generation now. It is already the case that CG is the standard for animated films and not just the new thing. Seeing a traditional animated film come out is now going to be unusual.

For me the trick is whether or not they nail the thing. I don't care if it's done with rubber bands and glue as long as it's a solid piece of work. I think the Pixar films are pretty solid, especially the ones with Brad Bird at the helm. Likewise, I'm not impressed with a film that's done traditionally if the whole package doesn't come together. I'm probably uttering a profanity by saying this but I think Wizards suffers from an overall lack of cohesion. Visually it's a buffet of awesomeness, and the basic concept is solid. It has some good characters. It has some wonderful scenes. But all those elements do not come together as well as they need to. It's kind of piecemeal. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that the story aspires to something more epic and cohesive. The original Heavy Metal, for example, had a really butt-simple premise so it was able to meander through different stories and hold itself together as well as it needed to. I've always felt that if Wizards had played down it's Big Story and focused even more on the little bits and pieces it would have been a better film.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to this new HM. Hopefully it will rock the riverboat and shake the gorilla's nuts.

Tried to watch Wall_E this weekend, I couldn't get through it. I'm tired of the ultra-realistic CGI animation. Sometimes it's cool but, sometimes it's just too much. I recently watched the Hobbit which was much more enjoyable. Maybe it's a generational thing but, I'll take Bashki's Wizards any day.

Yes, that last one was a disaster. This is definitely looking more like something I'd want to see --- still, all CGI may or may not be a good thing. I wouldn't mind of there was some good old cell animation in there somewhere. Call me a fogey.

I doubt it will be. Kevin Eastman has publicly acknowledged that the sequel sucked a big one. I'm feeling good about this one.
